Meryl Streep Wins Oscar For Best Actress In A Leading Role At The 2012 Academy Awards
While many were rooting for Viola Davis to take home the gold tonight, it was Meryl Streep who came surfaced up on top. While Streep has been nominated 17 times, this is only her 3rd win. She won the Oscar for her role as Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.”
This is Streep’s first time taking home an Oscar since 1982, so this is well deserved. Stars like actor Brian White, who’s film “Good Deeds” starring Tyler Perry premiered this past Friday, took to Twitter to say, “Can’t ever be mad about Meryl. She hasn’t won since ’82 and is always worthy. Kudos Meryl.
#respect Bummed tho. #bittersweet.” Holly Robinson Peete also posted a comment on her Twitter stating “Wow 17 noms 3 wins! Congrats Meryl! Was pulling for Viola but how can you root against Greatness? #Oscars“.
So it looks like everyone has handled the win well. It was a tough decision, and something that both actresses really deserved. But we all know that there can only be one winner, and that this isn’t the end of the road for Viola. We’re very happy for Meryl and her new award. I’ve been a huge fan since seeing her in “The Devil Wears Prada”, so I’m happy for her.
