Actor Emerson Brooks nominated for NAACP Image Award

Most people don’t know that Emerson Brooks is a legacy member of the NAACP, so for him to be recognized for his role in the daytime drama “All My Children”, means far much more than any person could imagine. The moment he found out that he had an NAACP Image award nomination he was ecstatic; yet humble. It was an honor for him as an actor and it represented that he was doing what his purpose was as a entertainer.

Brooks growing up didn’t find his love for acting like most celebrities do at a young age; instead, he wanted to be a spy. After finishing high school, he became a paratrooper for the United States Army and moved on to become an Aerospace engineer, because of his love for technology. Now for most, a six figure job like this at a young age would be a dream for someone in their twenties like him, but Brooks wanted a little bit more. Shortly after figuring out what he wanted to do in his free time, he joined a small theater company and found himself missing work to go to unpaid acting gigs, that’s where it all began.

“I fell in love without looking for love”, says Brooks.

That was in 2003, now eight years later, Emerson couldn’t be any happier. With the role of “Ben” on “All My Children”, he explains that he prepares every day by setting short-term and long-term goals for himself, while staying educated in his film studies. He gives his longevity and success to staying healthy, positive and being mentally sound. Brooks explains that you cannot do your job if you’re staying out late, partying all the time and not taking care of yourself first.

His advice to up and coming entertainers, “The only difference between what I’m doing and what their doing, is that I decided to go do it!” He says, “For anybody that is sitting at home right now, what’s stopping you? Figure out what you have to do to get it done. Take the chance, stop listening to the people who tell you that you can’t! Believe in yourself…Set your goals and go for it!”
